buy British Passports ,From 1971 to 1997, Hong Kong residents were classified as British Dependent Territories Citizens (BDTCs). As such, they were issued a British passport with “British Dependent Territories Citizen” on the cover, with “Hong Kong” at the bottom. These passports allowed them to travel internationally but did not grant the right of abode in the United Kingdom.

Prior to 1983, residents of British colonies, including Hong Kong, held a common nationality within the British Empire. They were considered Citizens of the United Kingdom and Colonies (CUKCs), which gave them unrestricted rights to enter and live in the UK.

However, as decolonization occurred, immigration restrictions were gradually imposed, particularly on non-white individuals. The British Nationality Act of 1981 reclassified CUKCs into different groups based on their connections to the UK or its remaining territories. The majority of British subjects in Hong Kong became BDTCs, with the right to live only in Hong Kong.

As the 99-year lease of the New Territories neared its end, negotiations between the UK and China resulted in the Sino-British Joint Declaration in 1984. This treaty ensured the transfer of Hong Kong to China in 1997, under the agreement that Hong Kong would become a Special Administrative Region (SAR) with a high degree of autonomy for 50 years.

In preparation for the handover, the British government created the British National (Overseas) (BN(O)) status in 1985. This status was available for BDTCs connected to Hong Kong who chose to register before the 1997 handover. BN(O) status allowed them to retain a form of British nationality, but without the right of abode in the UK.

After Hong Kong’s transfer to China on July 1, 1997, Hong Kong residents could hold either a BN(O) passport or a Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) passport. The HKSAR passport is issued by the Hong Kong government to Chinese nationals who are permanent residents of Hong Kong.
