German Passport Sample
A German passport is an official identification document provided to German citizens for international travel. It acts as verification of identity and German nationality, enabling support from German consular officials while abroad.
Here is a summary of the essential features of a German passport:
Validity
German passports are valid for a duration of ten years for individuals aged 24 and older, and for six years for those under the age of 24.
Design and Features
Since January 1, 1988, German passports have adhered to the standard design of European Union passports, showcasing a burgundy red cover with the German federal eagle prominently displayed in the center. A new design was launched on March 1, 2017, which features a flexible cover and a polycarbonate card in place of a laminated data page.
The passport incorporates various security features and graphics, including a large illustration of the Brandenburg Gate and the federal eagle that can be seen under UV light, along with some lyrics and notation of the national anthem embossed on the back of the data page.
Inscriptions
The phrases “Europäische Union” (European Union) and “Bundesrepublik Deutschland” (Federal Republic of Germany) are inscribed above the coat of arms. Below the coat of arms, the terms “Reisepass” (German for “travel passport”), “Passport,” and “Passeport” (in English and French respectively) are displayed.
