Validity: Egyptian passports are valid for seven years for adults. They are issued for shorter periods for students or those who have not finalized their military conscription status.
Appearance: The passports have a dark green cover with the Egyptian coat of arms in the center. The words “جواز سفر • Passport” (Passport in Arabic and English) are inscribed below the coat of arms, and “جمهورية مصر العربية • Arab Republic of Egypt” (Arab Republic of Egypt in Arabic and English) appear above. The passport contains 52 pages and opens from right to left.
Electronic Passport: Egyptian citizens residing in the United States can request an electronic passport from the Department of Passports and Immigration in Cairo by mail within 8–10 business weeks or in person while in Egypt within 3 business days. A temporary travel certificate can be issued for three months, renewable until the electronic passport is issued.
Machine Readable: To comply with international passport standards, the Egyptian government introduced machine-readable passports (MRP) in 2008. The newer passports offer better security and state-of-the-art anti-forging parameters.
