What is a British Hong Kong passport?
British National (Overseas) passport (BN(O))
Before Hong Kong’s handover to China in 1997, the UK created a special status called British National (Overseas) for Hong Kong residents. People who registered before the cutoff became BN(O) citizens and could hold a British National (Overseas) passport.
This passport:

Is a genuine travel document issued by the UK government.

Does not automatically grant the right to live/work in the UK, except under specific recent immigration policy (see below).

Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) passport
People who hold Chinese nationality and permanent residency in Hong Kong can hold an HKSAR passport, issued by the Chinese government via Hong Kong authorities.
